Aging isn't easy. My name is Marcy Backhus and I am your host! Make sure your complete well-being is handled with a community and information that can make it easier and FUN. Aging needs humor, which you can find in the "Aging ain't for Sissies" Podcast, along with informational guests that give us the information we need.
Hi everybody and welcome to AGNA for Sissies. Well, this definitely wasn't on my calendar. I'm recording this from and if the sound is a little different, that's because it is. There are machines around me, people coming in and out, and absolutely no glamorous podcast studio happening here
today. A few days ago, as I was walking along, and apparently, I apparently had a cardiac episode. I completely blacked out, fell, smacked my head, my shoulders, my hips, scraped all the skin off the top of my hand, made stitches in my head. But the good news is I didn't break anything. But I've been in the hospital ever since. Today is Wednesday. I've been here since Friday trying to figure out
what happened. Well, apparently I had a cardiac episode where my heart couldn't didn't know what it was doing, so it just stopped doing anything. Wasn't a heart attack, wasn't a stroke. It was just an episode.
So tomorrow I'm having surgery and I'm having a defibulator placed into my chest. I don't know that I have some great lesson to give you today. I'm still living this one, but I do keep thinking about the name of my podcast, Aging Eight for Sissies. Boy, isn't that the truth?
Because part of getting older is realizing that sometimes your body has other plans. You can make the calendar, you can make the travel plans, you can have your little list of everything you're going to accomplish this week. And then life actually says, Marcy, we're going to the hospital. Sorry if you hear noise because that's I don't know what's happening outside my door, but it's busy. And life does tell you you're going to the hospital. I like a plan. I like knowing what's happening. I like being organized. Apparently, the root universe did not receive my itinerary. But here's what I'm learning.
Sometimes the survival guide is very simple. You show up, you ask questions, you let people help you, you do the scary test, you have the surgery, you take the next thing as it comes. That's where I am. Excuse me, right now. So there isn't going to be a regular episode this week. I'm giving myself permission to take care of Marcy. And maybe that's this week's survival challenge for all of us. When your body tells you you need it needs your attention, listen, everything else can wait. I'll be back when I'm ready, and we'll continue figuring out this aging thing together. Because as I'm discovering once again, Aging Aim for Sissies.
